What is The Culture Collective?
The Culture Collective was born out of a desire to see schools become environments that are safe and healthy for young people, their families, and the staff that work in these settings.
Research tells us that the culture of an environment determines its success, and as a key component to a child’s development, it’s important school’s are successful in how they operate.
Developing good culture doesn’t have to be complicated, but it requires many stakeholders to own it…the collective.
The Culture Collective exists to help schools find simple ways to build strong culture, healthy relationships, and safe environments.
What is school culture?
01
Shared Beliefs & Values
The collective principles and norms that guide the behaviour, interactions, and attitudes of everyone within the school community. These shared beliefs and values shape the school's identity, influence decision-making, and foster a sense of unity and purpose among students, teachers, and staff.
03
Systems & Policy
The structured procedures and documented policies that govern the operation and management of the school. These include academic guidelines, behavioural expectations, administrative processes, and safety protocols. They should support the implementation of the school's mission and values, helping to maintain a cohesive and productive school culture.
02
Relationships
The connections and interactions among students, teachers, staff, and parents are the key relationships in any school setting. These are crucial for building a sense of community, enhancing student engagement, and promoting collaboration and mutual understanding.
04
Environment
This is both the physical and emotional aspects of the school setting. The physical environment includes the layout, cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of the school’s resources, buildings, classrooms and grounds. The emotional environment involves the psychological safety and emotional climate of the spaces, contributing to the overall atmosphere within the school.
